Battery Cross Reference Chart: Compare Dimensions & Specifications

Have to replace the old battery? It is not possible if you don’t know the manufacturer’s recommendations. And, the type of battery, its dimensions, chemistry, nominal capacity, voltage, and other related data. This is unnecessary to say what’s the bad effect of using the wrong batteries. The wrong battery is harmful not only to your devices, gadgets, flashlights, cars, or others but dangerous to your life.

Button/Coin Cell Batteries

Button /coin cell batteries are also known as watch batteries and a wide range of non-rechargeable batteries. Perfect for daily uses devices including hearing aids, remote controls, watches, key-chain flashlights, and other small devices. The four chemicals used in these batteries are alkaline, silver-oxide, zinc-air, and mercury-oxide. Alkaline and silver-oxide chemistry are interchangeable. Some companies use both labels. 

Here are the details about these alkaline, silver-oxide, zinc-air, and mercury-oxide button/coin cell batteries. 

Alkaline button/coin cell batteries have 1.5 volts nominal voltage and are cheaper than other chemistries. LR##, LR####, and AG## are the common labels of alkaline batteries. 

An actual capacity is dependent on the cut-off voltage. Its nominal capacity is 110 to 130 mAh, lower than the zinc-air and silver-oxide capacity. Another important thing is the battery shelf-life. Of course, alkaline batteries offer most of the time 5 years or more shelf-life. 

Where silver-oxide button/coin cell batteries are also great due to their long shelf-life, up to 10 years. The nominal voltage is 1.55 volts, quite higher than alkaline. SR##, SR####, SG##, or similar are the most common labels of silver-oxide batteries. The range of nominal capacity is 150 to 200 mAh, less than zinc-air. 

Moreover, zinc-air batteries come with lower nominal voltage like 1.4V to 1.45 V, suitable hearing aid devices. But, the nominal capacity is higher than other chemistries, which is 600-700 mAh. On the other hand, mercury-oxide batteries are not available just because of the environmental bad effects.

Lithium Non-rechargeable  Button/Coin Cells Batteries

Another common button/coin cell batteries are lithium non-rechargeable button/coin cells batteries. The positive electrode is manganese dioxide or carbon-monofluoride.  And, the negative electrode is lithium.

Panasonic CR2412 Lithium Battery 3V (2 Batteries Per Pack)

Where manganese-dioxide batteries have 3.0 V nominal voltage and a cutoff voltage is 2.0 Volts, with a capacity of ~225 mAh.

Alternatively, carbon-monofluoride lithium batteries have 2.8v nominal voltage and 2.25v cutoff voltage along with their ~190 mAh nominal capacity. Keep in mind that non-rechargeable lithium batteries have a higher capacity than rechargeable batteries.
